Dear Local Businesses and Residents;

From the 2nd October 2015, Glebe will be home to a new temporary installation called a ‘Parklet’ in the first of three key locations along Glebe Point Road.

A Parklet is a removable structure of similar dimensions to a parking bay that can be used to provide an extension to the footpath, creating additional public space for use by business customers, residents and passers-by. The space will provide the high street with additional seating, greenery and artworks commissioned by the Glebe Chamber of Commerce.   This will be the first parklet in the City of Sydney LGA, they have been improving street life in our sister city San Francisco since 2010.

The parklet will be placed along Glebe Point road for 4 weeks at two locations and a no parking zone for another 4 months:

  • 02 October – 30 October:

186 Glebe Point Road, adjacent Glebe Library and Community Centre.

  • 30 October – 27 November:

249 Glebe Point Road, adjacent to Tom-Yum Tum-Gang Restaurant

  • 27 November – 18 March 2016

375 Glebe Point Road, a no-parking zone located adjacent to Timbah

Despite the temporary loss of a single parking space in certain locations, the proposal will help to enhance the facilities for the area and enrich the streetscape’s offering to pedestrian usage.  We would love to see you using it and hear your suggestions on how to improve it in the future.

TELL US WHAT YOU THINK! Help us to make parklets along Glebe Point Road a permanent fixture. Fill out our 3 minute survey by clicking below:

This information will importantly form part of our report to City of Sydney Council - that will put forward recommendations for future improvements to the street.

If you would like any further information about the proposal, please visit or contact:

Enjoy it while it lasts and hopefully we'll back in 2016 with another round of locations :-)
